Sheltered From the Storm - Part 3

Daughter, I have a daughter? A small smile spread across Joe's face while he followed Dr Roberts. She led him to the unit where they met sliding glass doors. She made him put on a sterile lab coat and gloves before letting him in. The automatic doors separated and Joe followed the doctor over to an incubator almost at the back of the room. "Here's your daughter Mr. Jonas," Dr Roberts smiled and Joe looked down into the glass box to see his baby girl asleep. "She's so tiny," Joe whispered and smiled wider. "They usually are," Dr Roberts whispered and checked the baby's chart and the screens behind her incubator. "Can I touch her?" Joe whispered back and looked up at Dr Roberts. She smiled at him and looked down at the small child. "Only with the gloves on," she whispered and Joe reached his left hand into one of the side holes. "I'll leave you two alone for a little while." "Hey there," Joe whispered and one of his fingers brushed his daughters left hand. "I'm your daddy," he whispered. She squirmed a little and her hand touched Joe's finger. Her tiny fingers grabbed hold and Joe smiled. "You've got a good grip," he smiled and a single tear crept down his right cheek. He wiped it away with his right hand. "Joe," a small voice came from behind him and he turned around, his hand still in the incubator. "Sarah, what are you doing here? You're supposed to be in bed." Sarah's frail body sat in a wheelchair and a nurse stood behind her. It wasn't good for her to be out of bed ...
